In the Community
The role of Public Relations Officer has been to Inform the public what the Legion in the Community does:-
Through establishing contacts with the Press and Radio
- By visiting Community Centres
- By Producing a Local Gazette and mailing to all our Branch Members
- To revitalise the Legion as a membership organisation
- By encouraging other associations to take part in our activities
- By enlisting the cadets as a Youth Section of the Branch
- To make the Legion more relevant to people from all walks of life by being Proactive in the Community and providing not for profit transport to other events
- To raise the profile of the Branch within North Staffordshire
- By supporting National Campaigns and other local initiatives relevant to the needs of our serving and ex-service personnel and their dependants
- Through Education and encouraging School trips to the National Memorial Arboretum
There is still a lot of work to do. Several ideas have been put forward and discussed. The Branch Committee investigates the plausibility of the ideas through the Events and Social Committee.
Items already under consideration:
- A budget for advertising
- A high profile awards event.
- Large social event involving non legion members (i.e Hangar Party.)
- How to improve School involvement.
- Shopping centre stands.
- Festival of Youth and Music
- Sport Sponsorship.
- Picnic in the park.
- Branch Website.
- Research the principle of ‘Legion in the Community’ and look for best practices.
It is apparent that the Branch and County have for some time being carrying L.I.C. activities and these should be encouraged.
The Branch considers that if a major event is planned we call on the experts at Pall Mall, for guidance and assistance where appropriate.
Sponsorship from local businesses should be rigorously sought to help offset any cost outlay.
Any event that is proposed must be budgeted for in the Branch Annual Budget for that particular year.
School involvement is important as it may well encourage at a later date potential members as well as encouraging more support for the Poppy Appeal and the continuance of the "two minute silence".
